The Senior Associate Vice President (SAVP) for AITS and Chief Information Officer (CIO) is charged with improving enterprise IT services and infrastructure delivered on the University’s campuses and to reduce the cost of delivering these services.
These efforts include investigating new service models, refining existing services, establishing performance measures, and advancing cooperation and coordination at the University of Illinois. The efforts are aimed at providing infrastructure and services to support the mission of the University.
The SAVP and CIO reports to the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller, Walter Knorr, and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Christophe Pierre.
The START myResearch project began as an effort to replace aging electronic research administration software and to simplify compliance. The project, which is University-wide, receives oversight from Urbana and Chicago but will be implemented by AITS.
START, or systemwide tools for administration and training, includes the implementation of Kuali open source software, a comprehensive system used to manage the complex research needs of faculty, grants administration and federal funding agencies. The software has been utilized by several other peer institutions, including Indiana University, Michigan State University, Iowa State University, among others.
